Golding Vows His Government Will Standardise Dress Code Policy In Schools

Opposition Leader Mark Golding has promised that if his party is elected, it would promote standardisation of the dress code policy in schools.   Speaking Wednesday night on TVJ’s All Angles , Mr. Golding said dress code policies should not be left to individual schools “to adopt what might be excessively restrictive dress codes when they’re being funded by the public purse”.    He argued that there should be a set of “reasonable and balanced” standards that allows students a “fair degree of autonomy but also achieves the kind of harmony” that ensures how students dress does not become a distraction from their learning.   Mr. Golding said this could be achieved through widescale consultation where a “proper focus group” would be established to examine the issue and establish the necessary guidelines that would apply across all publicly funded schools.    The government on Wednesday indicated that a national grooming policy will be available within a few months , which should address public concerns about the dress code in some schools.
